MBA Projects

Get Involved:

The MBA sponsors various projects throughout the calendar year to support and promote our local business community. Membership fees help defray the costs of these projects, but we are dependant upon volunteers, without whose generous donations of time, projects like the Farmers' Market and Art Passport do not happen.

If there is a committee you'd like to join, or if you have a project you would like to undertake in support of our business community, please contact the committee chair or MBA secretary, Mary Liberatore at 677 - 3434.

Millbrook Farmers' Market

  • Front Street & Franklin Avenue
  • Saturdays - 9am-1pm
  • Memorial Day Weekend - End of October

On any given Saturday, Memorial Day weekend through the last weekend in October, the Village of Millbrook is abuzz with market shoppers. Since 1992 when it was first established by the MBA, the Farmers' Market has offered fresh, local produce and locally-made products, drawing shoppers to the town and providing a selling venue to our local growers and producers.

MBA Website

Local consumers as well as visitors to the area are increasingly utilizing the web to gather information on products and services. With the launch of the web site, the MBA has created a central location for information about Millbrook and the Town of Washington and provided an additional promotional opportunity to our member businesses.

MBA Map & Directory

Visitors as well as residents keep this fold-out guide handy for easy reference. It features maps of both the Village and Town with the location of member businesses clearly indicated. Guides are distributed throughout the Town of Washington as well as provided to Dutchess Tourism.

Beautification

Two important projects traditionally administered by the MBA are the Christmas holiday lights and the summer flower barrels.

Holiday Lights

The Christmas tradition was started in 1952 by four of the founders of the MBA, Bill Howe, Andy Briggs, and Joe and Louis Velletri. The scope of the project has grown over the years, to the impressive display that it is today. The project, which costs in excess of $8,000, is funded by the MBA, the Millbrook Tribute Garden, and donations by appreciative citizens of the community. Nearly 100 trees with glittering, multi-colored lights line Franklin Avenue from the Green to the Thorne Building. A spectacular sight after dark!

Flower Barrels

The flower barrel project helps to beautify the community in the summertime. The barrels are planted with red geraniums the week before Memorial Day and are tended to by Mother Nature, with the help of the Nine Partners Garden Club and the businesses along Franklin Avenue. This project is also funded by the MBA, the Millbrook Tribute Garden and generous members of the community. More than 40 barrels with over 120 geraniums are used each year.

Donations to either of these projects are most greatly accepted by the MBA. A check for any amount should be made payable to the MBA and sent to P.O. Box 1013, Millbrook, New York 12545.

Halloween Contest

The Millbrook-Town of Washington Business Association is the host of the annual Halloween Contest. All businesses are invited to decorate their establishments and dress in costume for the day. Judging starts at 10:00 a.m. with prizes being given out for the scariest, spookiest, funniest, most original,/creative, cutest, corniest, prettiest, and best group.
